Australia’s 3 Day Guarantee for Early Childhood Education
Big changes have been made to the Child Care Subsidy, making childcare more accessible and affordable than ever before.
From 5 January 2026, families will gain easier access to quality early childhood education and care, thanks to the Australian Government’s new 3 Day Guarantee. Put simply, this means every child will be eligible for at least 72 hours of subsidised early learning per fortnight, that’s a guaranteed three days each week.
What’s more, the Australian Government will remove the Activity Test, which is a huge obstacle families face when seeking childcare subsidies for their children.
What does the 3 Day Guarantee mean for your family?
- Your Childcare Subsidy entitlements will automatically increase to 3 days of subsidised care each week for each child.
- Families can save thousands each year. For example, a family earning $90,000 could save over $11,000 per year.
- It’s a big win for families who are looking for work, or who work casually or are studying, as the 3 Day Guarantee will replace the Activity Test, meaning every family is eligible.
For families already receiving over 72 hours of subsidised early learning per fortnight, they will retain their existing entitlements.
First Nations children will get 100 hours of subsidised early learning per fortnight.
